In 1959 the late Shantilal Mulji Thakkar and founder of Chandarana opened his first grocery store in the highbridge shopping centre in Parklands Nairobi. In 1980 the founder’s first born son Annil Thakkar opened chandaranas first retail store in Yaya nairobi. This was the blueprint of what is now one of Kenyas biggest supermarket chains. before Shanital passed in 2000 chandarana was handed over to his 3 sons Anil Thakkar, Sanjay Thakkar and Dipin Thakkar, each taking on their individual roles within the business.
