Bognor Regis has had its fair share of criticism and bad reviews in the past with its pub’s nightlife and restaurants, but in these changing times, is it worth a visit?
Contrary to popular belief there is more to bognor Regis than Butlins holiday camp the main thing most people will relate to when you mention Bognor regis.
Having grown up and lived in this area for most of my life I regularly visit Bognor and I have noticed many changes over the years.
What is Bognor Regis famous for?
Mention Bognor Regis to most people outside of Bognor and they will more than likely mention Butlins Holiday camp, But Bognor is also famous for more recent events such as its nightlife and being one of the hottest beaches on the south coast. Bognor Regis was also popular with the royals back in the day with the likes of King George Apparently the name Bognor comes from an old Saxon word meaning shore or landing, and Regis meaning Kings.
In 1993 Hosting one of the original nightclubs to bring rave music out of the warehouses and onto mainstream clubs (The Empire club) Bognor nightlife was booming. with the likes of Top DJs Like Danny Rampling, John digweed, tall Paul Lenny Dee and many other top house DJs at the time. replacing your old-fashioned disco DJ with house, Techno, and trance (modern electrical Rave music) Bognor Regis was the place to go for nightlife
With the pier nightclub across the road (Now Sheiks nightclub) weekends were packed with party people and ravers queuing up to get into these clubs and party the night away until early hours of the morning. This kind of put Bognor on the map when it came to nightlife, but unfortunately when the clubs realised, they could only sell water to these guests, this era was short lived.
Unfortunately, this vibrant atmosphere brought with it many unsavoury characters and Bognor Regis got a bad reputation of being full of druggies, Thieves and generally a rough area to visit.
Bognor Regis pubs and restaurants
With so many old pubs & restaurants closing and new ones opening up in Bognor Regis, many changes are taking place and all for the better. This old fishermans village is slowly becoming a wonderfull town to visit.
