Scientifically known as Colobus angolensis palliatus (the Angolan black and white Colobus) these monkeys can be found mainly in the southern coastal areas of Mombasa, (Including Diani). Not to be mistaken with their close relatives Colobus guereza (the eastern black& white Colobus monkey) mainly found in the highlands of Kenya.

These beautiful monkeys are protected as their fir is in great demand for making coats and handbags and in the past for tribal robes worn by chiefs and village leaders. Today however, thanks to the high long-term jail sentences for harming or killing these monkeys, numbers are rising and less are being targeted by poachers or trophy hunters.
