Camping is great fun and usually full of activity, having a slow cooker will give you great tasting food without too much preparation & more time to enjoy your adventure.
Most Campsites will have on-site convenience stores selling meat, vegetables, Rice and generally everything you need to make the perfect Hot-Pot casserole without having to bring your own raw produce, this means less to carry and fresh produce to cook with.
Why take a slow cooker camping? This will very much depend on where you go camping. Many campsites will not allow cooking on an open fire or BBQ due to health and safety fire regulations. Taking portable gas hobs is an option but will mean you also need to take pots and pans and cleaning materials.

A slow cooker is a one-pot cooking machine with easy to clean inserts, making it much more convenient and easy to clean. Most campsites will have a communal electricity supply and if not, there are other options such as a power pack or car battery power converter.

For the more adventurous camper venturing deeper into the wilderness, an open fire would be the perfect heat source. The inconvenience of a slow cooker is its size and weight, so carrying one long distance on foot may not be the ideal choice.
How do I use an Ecopot slow cooker when camping?

By the time I get settled down and all set up, my pot of stew is ready to tuck into, it really adds to my nights fishing and worst-case scenario if I don’t catch anything at least I go home on a full belly.

On average a 3.5litre slow cooker uses about 1.3 kHz of electricity that works out to about 20p give or take for about 8 hours. This will vary depending on the make and manufacture of your slow cooker.
So much cheaper than using an oven or gas stove. In the long run it will pay for itself just by the money you save on power source. But the great thing about the slow cooker, unlike a BBQ or rotisserie is you don’t have to stand there watching it. Turn it on, leave it for 3-6 hours (depending what you are cooking) and hey presto, dinner is done.

Can you use a slow cooker in a caravan?

Camping and Caravanning are what you do to get away from the everyday stresses in life, so the last thing you want to do is have a stressful time cooking. Yes, it is also part of the fun, but without a big kitchen with all the cooking facilities you are a bit restricted. So, taking a slow cooker camping is a fantastic idea and you can still make great food using a slow cooker.

Stewing beef in a slow cooker for a long period of time will make it tender and break it down. But this comes at a price.
