Home made Seville orange marmalade

Making Marmalade with Seville Oranges using this quick and easy recipe can be fun and rewarding, We visit Witterings High Street to pick up some Seville Oranges from the local veg shop Horrocks Greengrocers. using Preserve Sugar, Fresh Seville Oranges, and water we make the most amazing homemade Marmalade with a sweet tangy orange taste. This simple easy-to-follow Recipe will save you money and keep you going for ages.

For this recipe you will need

1 Kg Seville Oranges

Procedure

  1. Prepare your jars the night before, Give them a good wash and leave them to soak overnight with a couple of sterilizing tablets.
  2. Wash your Oranges, Cut them in half, and squeeze the juice into a large saucepan With 2ltr of water cut the squeezed Orange in half and put it in the saucepan, and do the same with the Lemon. using a spoon scrape out the insides of 2 Oranges put the interns in the saucepan and save the skins for later.
  3. Put the saucepan on the stove and bring the juice to a boil. Turn the heat down to electric three and allow it to simmer for 2 hours.
  4. Cut the Orange peels into small rinds, put them in a saucepan with .50ltr of water, bring to a boil, and leave to simmer for 90 mins or until soft.
  5. When the juice has been simmering for 2 hours remove it from the stove and strain it, put the interns into a separate saucepan add 1 litre of water and bring to a boil for 5 minutes. remove the rinds from the stove and add them to the juice. Strain the juice from the interns and add to the main juice and rinds. You should make sure you have 2 ltr of juice.
  6. Place your saucepan back on the stove on low heat and add 1.820kg of preserve sugar, Keep stirring for about 10 mins until all the sugar is dissolved.
  7. Turn the heat up full and when the juice begins to boil put a timer on for 20 mins.
  8. after 20 mins of boiling remove from the heat and allow to cool for 30 mins. Take a cold plate and pour some of the Marmalade on it, run your finger through the Marmalade and if it makes a path that does not come back together too quickly, your Marmalade is ready.
  9. allow to cool then put your marmalade in jars and store in a cool place.

This amazingly simple recipe is unique to using Seville Oranges and the sugar quantity may differ Using other Oranges as they are not as sour as Seville Oranges.

If well sealed and kept in a cool place this Marmalade can last for at least a year, in fact, the longer you leave it the better it gets. Although I don’t recommend it, I once found a jar that I had forgotten about for four years, it tasted amazing.
